It’s been a month since we launched the CWU App and the reception has been fantastic. We’ve now had nearly 15,000 downloads and reached number 5 in the most downloaded news apps on the App Store – beating media giants such as Sky News, the Financial Times and LBC for a short time.

This month on Affiliate – the CWU App
We’ve covered the latest CWU news including the view from Dave Ward at Labour conference, Terry Pullinger discussing Royal Mail Group average holiday pay and Kate Hudson setting out the CWU Equality strategy.
As well as this, we’ve heard from Jo Grady, UCU General Secretary, Apsana Begum, MP for Poplar and Limehouse, and Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham.
What’s to come?
We’re beginning to look into Phase 2 of the App. If you’ve got some ideas on how we could improve, email affiliate@cwu.org or watch out for surveys on the App in the coming weeks.
Known issues
Some users have had issues creating/verifying their Affiliate account due to an incorrect configuration of the analytics set-up in the backend of the app.
This has now been resolved and anyone who had these issues should delete the app and then redownload the latest version. Thank you for your patience.
We encourage members to download the app and to send on to colleagues.
It’s your union. This is your App.

Dear Colleague
TUC MARCH AND RALLY – SATURDAY 19th MARCH, BLACKPOOL – MOBILISING THE CWU
The TUC have called a march and rally in response to the ongoing cost of living crisis. The event will take place from 11:00 on Saturday 19th March in Blackpool.
The CWU have been pushing the TUC to be more proactive in both their opposition to this government and their support for our New Deal for Workers Campaign. On this basis, it is crucial that our Regions and Branches are well represented on the 19th March.
The march and rally will coincide directly with the Tory Party Spring Conference, which is being held in Blackpool at the same time. This is a great opportunity for a trade union led activity to gain media coverage and challenge the actions of this government.
Branches will be aware that this event clashes with the UN Anti-Racism Day rally in London. Branches will of course make the appropriate decisions about delegations to each event. We will also ensure that our block and branding at the TUC organised march in Blackpool reflects our already well established CWU against racism messaging.
We will share further details on the march and rally in the coming weeks. We want to see a large block of members, representatives, friends, and families protesting under the CWU banner. We will be using all means possible nationally to raise awareness of this event.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
General Secretary

Dear Member,
Your Pay
The CWU has officially commenced negotiations on your pay for 2022. Last year, BT gave their commitment that you would receive a consolidated pay rise this year and they have confirmed that they will honour this commitment.
You will be acutely aware of the cost-of-living crisis and the rise in costs to heat your home, transport costs and the cost of food. The CWU are making the case that our members have worked throughout the pandemic, helping BT to continue to make billions in profit and you deserve a decent consolidated pay rise that protects the value of your pay against the rising cost of living.
The CWU will be progressing pay along with resolving the unagreed pay points, fairer grading and pay structures. The pay review is due on 1 April 2022.
Please note, BT has advised members working in Consumer, Enterprise and EE who will receive an uplift to their pay to £20,000, in February 2022, that there will be no further increase for this group of workers in April 2022. Your Union has every intention of progressing the pay for these members further in 2022.
We will keep members updated on progress, meanwhile, we would encourage and welcome your views on pay by emailing btpay@cwu.org
Yours faithfully,
